EXERCISES IN TOWN PLANNING City Exchange, Leeds, 2022
Artists have often been used as tools in the urban re-development cycle, improving the perception of an area where studio, workshop or gallery spaces is affordable, before developers move in and ultimately price them out of their spaces. Designed in response to the growing number of vacant former commercial press in Leeds, Exercises in Town Planning aim to give the initiative to artists as town planners to re-design the High Street and prototype a new future. The workshop included speakers from: Leeds centred studio provider East Street Arts, arts organisation Axis and the City Centre Management Team at Leeds City Council.
